Continuing on with our Honda Odyssey’s…. Odyssey, we wanted to show just how cars continue to handle the growing number of features and technology. In today’s video, we’ll see how the Honda Odyssey communicates the status of its various advanced driver assistance systems.
Lane Departure Warning – This is generally a passive system, alerting the driver of crossing outside of your original lane markers without use of a turn signal indicator. Some cars have audible warnings, some have visual cues, and some can give a vibration to the seat and/or steering wheel. The Honda Odyssey flashes a visible warning in the dash, and vibrates the steering wheel.
Lane Keep Assist – This is the next level of above, and is more active, in which the vehicle can make either a steering adjustment, or utilize light braking, to try to keep the vehicle within the original lane. Some vehicles are definitely more aggressive in active steering corrections than others. You may also find that some systems tend to ping pong the car back and forth between the lane markers.
Adaptive Cruise Control – As you might guess from the name, this newer type of cruise control adapts to traffic. Instead of just pegging a speed to hold, the vehicle can also adjust speed downward due to any traffic that you may approach to maintain a preferred following distance or gap. This Honda Odyssey can’t bring the car down to a complete stop, it requests the driver to take over below ~22 miles per hour.
