Ford Motor Company announced that their upcoming Escape plug-in hybrid will have a 37-mile range on battery alone.
This is huge, as most plug-in hybrids on the road today only have an electric range of ~15-25 miles. Glad that we’re finalizing seeing more and more plug-in hybrids (often noted as PHEVs) with some substantive electric range. With battery tech and charging times, PHEVs like this really are the balance of tech and usage for the infrastructure we have today, and likely for the near future.
Fully electric driving around town and most commutes, with gas hybrid capability for anything beyond like road trips, unexpected trek across town, etc. This would in effect alleviate any type of electric “range anxiety.”
As a reminder, a plug-in hybrid doesn’t HAVE to be plugged in/recharged in order to drive, it would drive as any other hybrid car today.
Would you consider a plug-in hybrid?
